Dr. Chris Magee is a professional trumpeter and educator in central and southwest Virginia. From 2013 to 2025, Chris served as Associate Professor of Music at University of Lynchburg. At UL, Dr. Magee was Director of Jazz Activities, taught trumpet, as well as courses in music appreciation, music history and music technology. His doctor of musical arts degree is from the University of Iowa and his bachelor and master degrees are from James Madison University.
Chris is a highly sought after clinician and guest conductor along the east coast; including guest director, twice of the VBODA District 16 All-District Jazz Ensemble and the Delaware All-State Jazz Ensemble.
Dr. Magee is principal trumpet with the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra and is co-leader and lead trumpet with the Vosbein Magee Big Band (vosbeinmageebigband.com). He has played lead trumpet for Aretha Franklin, Wayne Newton, The Temptations, The Four Tops and the O’Jays. Chris previously worked as a trumpeter and arranger at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL.
